AARP liveable Communites Crosswalk Art
Main Street Enid, in partnership with AARP, is currently working on traffic-calming crosswalk art in multiple locations throughout Downtown Enid.
Main Street Enid was recently selected as one of the AARP Community Grant Challenge recipients, focused on enhancing public safety and adding to our community’s quality of life. The purpose of this grant is to add traffic calming elements that increase visibility for people of all ages. Downtown Enid is a Certified Cultural District, and these additions will help support our community’s presence as a leader in the arts.

PROPELLER FLOWERS
The first one to be completed was PROPELLER FLOWERS located at 301 S. Grand on October 17th, 2020.
Recognizing the role of Enid in the early days of Clyde Cessna’s aviation career and Enid’s role in supporting the training of the world’s best pilots at Vance Air Force Base, this design features a row of propellers designed to resemble flowers. While the form of the flower is loosely based on the evening primrose, a flower common to areas of Oklahoma, the coloration of the design utilizes bright yellow, oranges, and reds to aid with visual acuity for elderly walkers.

RADIANT CITY
The second one to be completed was RADIANT CITY located at the intersection of Grand and Broadway on May 1st, 2021.
After a winter of very cold and extreme weather, we are excited to continue on with our crosswalk project!
From the City of Enid's website, “Enid truly is “The Bright Star of the Great Plains”, and it is getting brighter by the day”. Depicting Enid as a bright and glowing target in the middle of fields of agriculture is the motivation for this concept. Bright colors radiate from Enid shining brightly over the surrounding landscape. The aircraft silhouettes flying over the community represent the contributions of the staff and personnel at Vance Air Force Base to the success of Enid.
